Things to use in sentences

When does one use a colon? :
Or a semi-colon? ;
Or a dash? -
Everything has a specific purpose - can you explain the difference between these? I would like to know.

Everything (:;-) has more then one meaning, I'll just state one for each!

Colon: Use to show a definition eg. Colon: Use to show definition eg. Colin: Use...

Semi-colon: Use when there are two similar themes eg. I walked home; I lost my bike.

Dash: Use instead of "to" eg. 3pm-4pm

Wikipedia helped me lots!

PS: I saw the worlds best stick animation, its called "The demented cartoon movie". I watched it, but it took 30 mins! It's cool, no swearing, we should watch at school!

Hi, this is a bit off topic, but yea.

Mr Woody, is this good as a wall chart? I got title, intro, an "Mites around the house" article, an Dust Mite article, an head louse article, and a conclusion! I got borders, and 3 pictures, a head louse, a dust mite, and a flea! Is that good for a science fair? Or should I change something.

i like the topic ernie - it is a creepy one, so people will find it interesting. also, the creatures make good models because they look so grotesque and spooky when you see them magnified.
i would change the title because you have called it mites around the house, then included things that aren't mites. i would call it invidious invertebrates, or, ugly arthropods, or something that used aliteration and a scientific name for the group or category of creatures you are describing. in this case, they are all invertebrates - that means things without back bones.
well done for using the blog effectively to seek information relating to your science fair.

Do I have to put the reference on the bottem right corner?

Ernesty said...

Is "alarming acarinas around the abode" better?

MrWoody said...

paradise man - yes - clear references on the bottom right hand corner. and if 'acarinas' is a real word then that is a brilliant title - as long as acarinas are what you are describing and its the correct name for them.

Acarina is the scientific group name for mites!

Ernesty said...

Im nearly finished! I just have to stick the stuff on!

Ernesty said...

Oh yea should I include my name?

MrWoody said...

paradise - you are posting in the wrong place. and no, don't put your name on the front. i have labels for you for the back of your science fair.

A semi- colon can be used to replace a fuul stop, semi-colons are also used before words like therefore, nevereless, however, morever.

A colon is udes to introduce a list also you see it on the second half of a sentence to expand or summarize the the first half.

Bubbles

MrWoody said...
