Skipper Bob's comment about her Sailing regatta challenge is re-posted here for you to read and comment...
"for a challenge i will be designing a tecnology challenge to build a boat (sail boat) i have not got far but...here are some rules for the boat challenge:you have to have a sailyou are not alowed a motor apart from one to turn the rudders (a long board at the back of the boat which turns from side to side for steering)you can not just buy a fancy modelit must be specified size (i will say size later)can be trimaran (a boat with 3 floating bits joined by a net)catamaran (same as trimaran but 2 bits) or monohull with keel (1 bit and a keel is a heavy wieght down in the water to stop the boat from tipping (like team new zealands buzzy bee)must not be made of papermust be propelled by the wind and inclued a mast and boomhelp!does this make sense?do i use to much sailing language?can you understand the rules????? COOL!
I will definitly take part!
Perhaps you should explan it in class to avoid confusin...GREAT IDEA!!
its fantastic!!!! and i agree with kitty kat!
HARI MAORI WIKI! -what does this mean....hehe (check last posts comments for details)
the only problem (i think) would be how would they sail straight, i suppose it depends on the wind...but if no one is on the boat....
im not sure if the comment above makes sence....
sounds good, but bob would probably make the best:)
she has done a great job at explaining the rules from something she knows all about to something that is easy for others (who dont know as much) to understand!
yes definitly do explain at school so that we ca ask questions!
es that is the only pobem, stearing, you migh have something imind so you can show us..Kit De Kat
Maybe we could have mice steering !!!!
tee hee =-)
hehe!! er, and when you say 'it cant have a moter' does that mean not a moter to make it drive e.g. can you have remote control steering?
eeeeek! it is so hard to put into words when i know exactly what im talking about, i dont think this (comment) makes sence
Thank you guys for all your kind and helpful responses.
hmm we might have to have very long strings attached to something for sinkages, capsizes and float aways
as for steering straight that is why you need a keel (centerboard) it stops you slipping sideways
im a room5ian- with you can't have a motor i mean you cant have a motor that sticks into the water and propels you along, but you can have remote controled rudders (if i remember i will tell you what these are at school)
do we want to try to avoid collisions with some basic sailing rules? they will be awkward
starboard (sail on left of boat) gives way to port (sail on right of boat) if a collision occurs port boat will be disqualified from that race or can attempt a 720
a boat closest to mark, when 2 boats are coming up to a mark together, gets room to manover round the mark
sounds like fun,but sounds kind of hard
i found a good animal site that is trying to stop bear farming and bull fighting and things like that. it's on my animal wiki
thank you for clearing that up skipper bob, i think it will be successful! that is great alpha! i think we may have to do a little bit of sailing research, it will be fun!
Yes sounds very good SB!
I really think you shouldask for time at school tomorrow still because I am DEADLY confused (still though you have made it a lot clearer)

Nice going skipper bob, this invovles a little science !
Im scared- sci fair results today!

hehe, all the more reason for research kitty kat.....this site has some stuff you may want to check out, and startting points and stuff;

cool....um ms candy!
I saw the resuls yesterday!
don't worry!
83)
yes that website is good...could SB explain it at school tomorrow though.
I know you kind of did today but if she could stnd up te font and explain the rules abd how we should make it steer and al those things it would be much eaiser to udersand and to participate.
kitty kat it will be hard because i am still figuring those things out for myself
you guys are showign great enthusaism. i think maybe you could do with some more direction and i reckon it might actually be okay to say anything goes for those who want to enter. Bob will decide, but if it means more people entering then i don't see a problem with paper boats going up against purchased superyachts. afterall - it will be the fun of sailing them that counts really.
bless you all for being soooooo great. you give me strength and inspire me to be a better person.

Ohhh Mr Woody!!!!!!!

Yes if it were flexable it would be funner as then people who don't want to build can buy and people who arn't great with boats don't need to know to much about all the parts etc.
We could have classes and sections...
that is a great idea kitty kat!!
Um..ijus got my ida from r Wody's so...Thanks M Wody
yes, i like the ideas of catagories, if it were to be more flexable. and, er, just a sugestion it would be a great fundraiser, so it might be a gold coin donation to enter or something....
this is a url for a drawn diagram picture which includes a catamaran, a trimaran and a monohull.....check it out!
http://www.solarnavigator.net/images/monohull_catamaran_trimaran_hull_drawing.jpg
this is so people can get a better idea of what they are and you may even get some ideas.....maybe they coud all be joined somehow.....
hm.....ye....goo deas....
Mr woody, Kitty kat and im a Room5ian are right it will now be flexible
sorry i got carried away and did not think about things like that

What a miserable day today =(
I don't like rainy days.... but they are cool to look at, plus most of my poems are about rainy days.

I love the rain!
Esspecialy falling aslepto the damp tickle.
Also be warned...If your mmum warns you not to touch a hot dish then may I recommend NOT!
me burned my middle finger 83(
oh! ouch!!!i fell asleep to the rain knocking down onto the roof..........zzzzzzzz....... hehe
hmmm!

I think that SB sailing comp should be on a flexable date in case of rain...The boats may fill up.......
!!!Science Fair!!!!
Well done to all those through to the Waikatos!!!!!
Who thinks the judging wasn't very fair?
ME!!!!
Room5ians and Chocie Lovers should definitly be through or at lease have a highly commended!
I recomend not feeling down hearted and feeling VERY PROUD of all the effort you put intoyour work!
P.S. SB you are through!!!
i got highly commended on my observational drawing and wallchart. i would be cool if i got in to the Waikato Science Fair, but I am still very happy with my score. some of the judging was kinda unfair though...
pim:P
i definately agree!! everyone should feel extremely proud of their efforts!
WELLDONE!!!
....and there was some fantastic work there..
Room5ian!
I have been to veiw and congrats!
You are in!!!
While i was there the judges talked to me and they said that the 15 spaces they had for 'big boards' had been taken up and that they are trying to get in 16 but they are unsure.
I have to put in a survey as well though!
I am definitly happy as well and who cares what you got!
its the effort that matters 83)
Happy Evening!
