soil, mulch, compost, worms, dirt!!

YUM YUM! Composting is fun. It's also important for sustainability, good for your garden and really quite satisfying.

Its not as easy as just dumping kitchen and garden waste in a bin though. It is a science! Anyone interested in being a soil maker? Rich fertile soil makes for productive gardens.

DID YOU KNOW?
If you're filling one wheelie bin of rubbish a week, you could be throwing away enough garden rubbish and kitchen scraps to make one and a half trailer loads of compost a year.

Nice thinking Mr. Woody we have a compost bin that we use to sustain our herb garden. In our garden we also grew: corn, zucini(marrow) and sunflowers. The marrow grew the best we made about 4 choc zucini cakes.

Cool.
Cool.
Cool!
I love gardening and stuff.
One problem - my parents don't own this house, therefore we can't put in compost - and I don't think they care.
Remember the think.

I like gardening too. I have a big compost bin at home, but when you get too close to it it stinks really bad.

We have a compost bin at home.
We have millions of worms and all sorts of bugs in it and they eat it and then somehow the help our garden.
It's so clever. I really don't understand how they do it.
I know this will sound really weird and off topic but what is spider silk made of.

Spider silk is made of spider silk I suppose!!
We don't have a compost - we don't have much of a garden either!! (It's mainly grass, stones, and different grassy plants.)

That 'plastic bags' thingy you showed us today was really interesting! At home we always try and re-use our plastic bags - we have a purple bag with a pukeko on it that is full with plastic bags!! But, we wouldn't have as many plastic bags as other people because we mainly get our groceries from Pak'n'save, which don't pack your groceries in plastic bags - you pack them yourself! (And we pack them in cardboard boxes.)

I go to Pak'n'save too. If anyone marries me when I am older, they will do the shopping, because I HATE it! The list is fine, it's just the shopping - although on that list would be about 7 different magazines - very educational!
We also pack our shopping into cardboard boxes, which makes up for all the ribbish we could recycle. However, we also save plastic bags, and when we get too much, we recycle them, and we use ecolight bulbs.
The plastic bag thing you showed us made me feel sick. Not sick like headache, vomiting, stomach ache, fever.
It was the sick feeling that we were doing it. That dumping plastic bags into the bin would kill beautiful animals - some we don't have lots of.
