Poetry competition

Today we learnt about Haiku.
How many syllables.
How many lines?
What are they usually about?
From which culture do they originate?

Here is an example Snowy and Savvy wrote in class after school. It's really brilliant...
;-)

Roses are red-ish
Violets are blue-ish
but who really cares?

Okay - so this isn't a very good example. Perhaps yr 7's can't write good poetry.
Can you prove me wrong?

The haiku has 5 syllables on the first line, 7 syllableson second and 5 syllables on the last. There are 3 lines and they are usually about nature or wheather.

The middle line has only six sylables. And that haiku isn't that good. It seems a little... simple.

i'm enjoying the analysis of the pitiful haiku - i can also reveal that the girls mentioned are not responsible for its terribleness ;-)

Vi-o-lets are blue-ish
Can you count?

This Haiku so sucks
It doesn't have potential
Can you try again?

i agree - it's awful.
The idea is for you guys to post your superior haiku here as examples.
For example, I enjoyed ashy and tweedledums love haiku series that they wrote for each other.

In the past few weeks in school, we did some work on poetry. We learnt a lot of different types of poetry. Maybe when I have time, I can post'em to you!!
P.S. I am VERY sorry that I couldn't join you guys on the blog, because it's been extremely busy here in Aussie, with projects and stuff. But do not hesitate to visit my GLOG some time and I will do my best to put up a glog about my life here!
P.P.S. ROOM5IANS RULE! Have a nice holiday guys!
