S Group literacy
For reading, can you tell me a bit about your current literature circle work on "The War of the Worlds", please, S Group?
Mr woody t group has written down what we did with that light brigade poem like we have written down our roles and the things we came up with doing our roles.
We have done chapter one and discussed the writers style of writing, the mood of the writing, what is was about and other questions asked during the session.
I think that chapter two was much more successful as it was easier too understand. We discussed all of the above, the different style of writing between chapter one and two. we made predictions and summerised. the second chapter was also better as really good questions were asked and were all answered with a lot of thought, depth, and often had two sides to it.
i think that we are doing exceptionally well but we do not completely stick to our roles as kitty kat and i thought that they may limit our, um, cant think of the word :) . but we still apply our roles.
excellent answer Room5ian, and well done for showing such enthusiasm for reading groups - you are doing so well. your comment shows an understanding of literacy strategies.
you others - Catarara - good commetn, but this is for S group - not T group. - Miss Candy - your comment is not helpful or relevant here. tsk tsk ;>)
Mr Woody - I havn't been there of course but from what I saw on monday and the other days that in the first chapter we discussed how the language was extremly complicated and the thoughts left your mind as soon as you left it. We discussed how we thought it could have been written better. Rooom5ian I will read chapter 2 so i am not behind.
the S group is going REALLY well, Room5ian is asking very good questions and then the group come up with very good answers and theories/predictions, it is soooo cool
sorry mr woody, i was just saying because you said that "the head lady" was going to be watching us do that so i was just saying it on this because it is to do with literacy...
sorry you only lasted half a day today kitty kat - lovely to see you though.
very interesting comments about the difference in style, room5ian - i wonder if you can identify specifically what features of language made it seem so different?
thanks Mr Woody..I will definitly be back on monday....my parents are going away for the weekend so I need to be all rested up!
Hmmmm....The War of the worlds is really interesting and complex. I think that it seeems different between the two settings as the first chapter was a difficult beggining - the author I think was having a lot to deal wiht. So much to fit in, not enough space. I think he was trying hard to get the message through in an interestingway and in doing so he creates a complex route for the reader to follow.
In a funny way, the story didnt really start until the second chapter, chapter one was more of an introduction. Maybe thats why they seemed so different. i suppose the first one kind of set the scene, characters (humans and martians) and started the suspicion and mystery of the story.
Well done S group you seem to be supporting eachother very well, and also having some great discussions about the text. exactly the purpose of the literacy circles! I'll see if i can find the war of the worlds cd, i know i have it somewhere...
indeed it did - you may not realise it but you S groupers just advanced the cause of personalised learning for future generations - well done - i am so proud of you all! 8>))
YAY!!! I'm sick AGaiN!!!!! arg...I had a headache all yesterda then a stomach bug last night...now I'm just sleeping it off....I slept for 14 hours!!!!!! I think that S group did do very well yesterday...I thought we advanced brilliantly.
i know thi is for "S group" but i really wanted to comment!
it sounds like s group is doing really well in expressing their feelings on why the text has changed. (i havn't read it but it sounds like it has from what i have heard) well done!
So do i Kitty Kat, you should rest until you are completely better rather than coming back and getting sick again. I think there is some sort of science fair thing tomorrow so maybe you should come.
Anyway....i completely agree kitty akt and i think smaller groups give each individual the chance to: :
contribute easily,
each person (is usually) at the same level which means everyone progresses together and easily,
everyone can learn at there own level, and be taught specificly what they need to learn, rather than people being left out, or behind (too easy or hard),
the techer can focus on a small group keep track of everything easily,
etc.
i think it is just easier for everyone!
i was really impressed with what our group came up with and hw evry answer had a lot of thought and depth put into it.
well, spudlet - thanks for commenting - you ar emost welcome. in fact, why don't you read the war of the worlds chapters and join us if you are interested? 8>)
room5ian - more insightful and valuable comments - i agree with what you have said. thank you so much for your dedication! and well done in the interschool cross country today - hooray for E-room5ian!
!!!Good job room5ian!!!!!!! I there the science fair interview things...do youknow what time they will be...I think i will be back tommorrow but if i'm not i might need to be there in which case i will come in....
if no one tells you otherwise kitty kat and robyn, come to school by 8:30 and go with galileo and miss pallesen. i may show up too just in case you need a ride. i am meant to be at a course though.
im pretty sure that we have to get to the hamilton gardens pavilion by nine am to set up our boards etc and i think we also get interviewed -this is what i am doing
the news report is interesting. i think it is written by the first, second, and third person. mostly because it is made up of different opinions, recounts, facts etc. im not sure it is a NEWSPAPER report anymore because they aree usually only written in one style -and it is not this particular one.
put yourself in that situation and imagine what it would be like, confused, scared, nervous, FRANTIC! along with hundreds of other people. imagine the polices job, having to convince people one by one, not even sure themselves, that it iis all not real. imagine the aftermath, the city would b dirty, broken. people would be angry, evemn though it was only their own fault.
yeah, it would be really frustrating, not know whats right and whats wrong.
Yeah good luck to you to!! remeber competeters that you have gone from kakepuku science fair, to the school science fair, to thee waikato science fair, so remember that prize or not, you have still done great -along with a of the othe people who put their effort into there project. YAY!!!
