Ok, I'll ask a question. Dear Room 5ians I think the idea of nanobots really fascinating. Apparently they envisage nanobots being put inside people to carry out surgeries and that sort of thing. What I wonder is, how is this possible? I also want to know how would they get the nanobots out? Or would they just stay there either deactivated or still wandering around? The idea of nanobots for surgery is kind of cool and creepy at the same time - what do you all think?

"What does e.g. stand for?"

"exemple gratia - for example."

"oh, okay. how about i.e then?"

"well, that's id est - that is. get it?"

"yeah, cool. ta."

[smiles all round]

see?

Mrs McGhie - awesome question! I can almost see/feel those nanobots creeping around inside me, up to no good... or up to mega-good maybe. Who knows? Kids? Can you enlighten us further about nanobot technological advances that exist or may be in the pipeline?

[I bet MEchboy answers this one best/first.]

My question nearly isn't as clever as Mrs McGhie's. But I have always wanted to know...

Why is the sand black at Raglan?

I have an ethical question - should parents be able to pre-select the sex of their child should this be available to them? (and is this even possible with the technology that is around at the moment?)

excuse me miss twiss - we are not rating the questions ... no self put downs ;-)

your question is excellent.
i reckon it [the black sand at raglan] is to do with decomposed maui dolhpins that get killed by fishermen who set nets... no? any better ideas kids?

My question is a wide one...
Why do humans continue to do things on earth that we actually know are bad for the earth? i.e. deforestation, chemicals etc

How can we stop this from happening?

The answer to this would be most helpful.

Thanks in advance, Miss S.

My question is less profound... I always wonder, why do people in the media say mean things about Hamilton? I loved living there when I was a student....

ethical question are great, suzievespacoolestnameperson!

miss signal - i love that question - it's really quite an important one for the kids to think about too - moral issues are so engaging. and the beauty of them is, there may not be a right answer - you just need to really think about the different sides to each story so you can decide where you stand - better to argue logically than emotively i reckon.

awesome question Manaia! as a class we started our year by debating just that - it got us lots of recognition from the city officials for having interesting ideas.

by the way, HamilHEAVEN i call it :-)

Hamilton is a pretty grand place. I grew up in Hamilton! Maybe people misunderstand it because they only ever pass through it on their journey somewhere else?

Are you going to share your Hamiltonian Marvins Room5ians?

Miss S.

good question miss signal - you know - part of the reason i want to create a new kind of learning place is because our most amazing, personal and affecting marvin stories have actually been repressed because one or two people believe they are inappropriate - this is mainly because of differing opinions [i could be wrong of course].

dont know the first one but ill research the second is because the sand has more iron and magnetic type stuff i think. the first question of the fith post is more an opinion and in my opinion no let it come naturally second question another poinion is no because they should let it come naturally kinda the same answer but kinda the same question third yes seventh post first question because the people with the power brain wash them and are selfish gold miners who just dont care such as gorge bush he went to iraq for oil yet brain washed the people to think it was for peace keeping question two by setting a test for presidential or high power spot candidates because critical news means publicity publicity means attension why else

Nanobot question- Nanobots are at the scale of molecules.
Scientists believe that these robots could reach the liquid body parts that very difficult, or near impossible to get to through todays medical practices. A senior lecturer in Australia is developing a nanbot propelled by a mini motor measureing about five-millionths of a metre.]
An injection would get them inside the body, and it would swim to it's target.
How they are supposed to get out however, would be a complete guess (maybe they come out the rear end).
You would also be surprised to note that 82% think that nanorobotics would make our lives better.

Miss Signals question- We keep cutting down trees and such because we are in a cycle that demands us to use trees and chemicals to have the life we have.
There are so many people on Earth that if we try and change, but some important people still have the perspective that we have now then it doesn't work.
I don't think we can stop it happenening...

P.S. If you don't agree or understand, say so.

Hey guys... YAYA! I'm back!
Nanobots... I read a horrible sience book - they would be used by coursing through veins, unclotting blood, making sure everything is working, healing by squirting medicine about. I think it might just go through the other end, like Mechy suggested.
