Who Rules the World?

Who does rule the world? What does that mean? Does anyone or anything rule the world? Perhaps it might be better to ask, who or what is the most powerful or influential entity, force, company, country, group, person, or idea that has an impact on human existence in the 21st century.
Ther have been times when you might have said the British Empire was most powerful, or earlier, the Roman Empire. Perhaps now it might be America - but is it George Bush, or his political party, or the US military, or the people of America who vited for him? Maybe it's not people or political groups. Is it Microsoft Corporation, or Bill Gates, or Google, or Coca Cola, or MacDonalds, or simply the idea of capitalism?
To answer this question, you have to decide, how do we decide what power is and what will help us decide what is th emost powerful 'thing' around at present? What is capable of making the biggest impact on your life without your permission?
PLay station? School? Your parents?
Try to think creatively of what if scenarios and post your ideas as you have them. You don't have to be right straight away. Just share thoughts about it. Generate a discussion and we'll see if we can work out what we think.
The people who come up with the best posts will be the news team for week one and have computer time to construct a news programme to be viewed on Friday.

Happy thinking....

Mr Woody,
The answer to your question has many possablities. I don't know who rules THE world, but I do know who rules MY world, HER world, HIS world and THEIR world. Siblings. Siblings are the human beings that have the MOST influence on you, for your ENTIRE life. That, Mr Woody, is my answer.

P.S. It's actually scientificly proven!

nice one, urxan. can you find internet references to the scientific proof you mentioned? post a link here if you can. if you can't, then you can't make that statement. you must justify all your statements.
well done for startingf the discussion! go and tell your parents your'e in the good books.

Like you said, it could be America! I think IT IS America!

Heres why:

1) They act as international policemen and interfere with other peoples problem. They usually try to solve it by... fighting!
2) They cause the most wars, probaly because of the influence of George Bush.
3) They have Nuclear Weapons, they could threaten any country by using the Nukes! Nukes should be banned from the world!

Hope that helps!

well, interesting points paradise.
some points to consider:

firstly, america has been imfluencing other countries through devious or outright illegal and violent means for a lot longer than bush's reign.

secondly, not only america does this.

thirdly, many countries have nuclear weapons and it is seen by some as a deterrent. that means, it stops others from going to war because of the threat of nuclear retaliation.

what do you think? do nuclear weapons reduce the threat of war?also, have you got any references to back up your opinions?

Ernesty said...

yeah maybe, usually they start the wars though!

paradise - i'm not stating an opinion either wayt - i just want you to justify your statements - give some examples of wars america has started..
you might also want to consider how it has surreptitiously controlled the politics of all central and south america...
oops - now i have to justify my statement!
when you're old enough, try reading the opinions of Noamh Chomsky

Mr Woody, please tell me what you think of the article in the mag I gave you in class!

okay urxan - i got distracted reading a biased article about the palestinian israeli problem. it raised some interesting points about palestinians breaking the recent cease fire.
its very easy to take sides on emotive issues, yet we often misunderstand the situation.
also, please remember i have only so many hours in a day, planning assessing [well, theoretically - ahem] and this blog to do, as well as exercise, eating, relaxing, being with my lovely wife, etc.

My opinion is that you decide who influences you the most! I chose my parents and, I don't know why, my brother. I don't look up to stars or anyone like that.

Did you know that the Americans take the credit for winning the war when it was the British and us? Also, if they take the credit for winning the war then they should take the credit for preventing anti-gravity in our system of things today. Do you know why I say this? Well, Adolf Hitler had started inventing things that would let you have anti-gravity fun! Isn't that COOL!
