Student Youth Council

Dileepa from the University of Waikato and Anaru from Hamilton Boys High School visited us on behalf of the Hamilton Student Youth Council today. They came to discuss the proposed developments in several of Hamilton's strategic growth areas. Our feedback was sought and we had a chance to have a voice in the city, once again.

Room5ians, please state your ideas, questions and input here. No doubt HCC people will take note and maybe even leave you comments.

I really enjoyed coming up with ideas, queries and questions today. Some people had really good opinions. I likes doing the 'Create your city' part. Our group were drawing some pretty random stuff, like rollercoasters over the river!!!

I reckon they should do something about that big wall like paint a mural or just chuck heaps of paint on it the problem is the cost but people could donate some.

I found it was a rather big matter of wills. If you wanted a say, you had to push until you got is written on the paper. I found what they were asking was different to what I had hoped they would give us, but then again it was a good idea to let us talk abouit Hamtown.
And Seb, having something on the river makes it cooler, more ride-tastic, if you get my gist.

HI!

1.I think we should have gondolas going over Waikato river- people would get a better, more relaxed view of it instead of having to quickly drive across it. It would also be a great promotion for hamilton and would attract more people.

2. Add a seperate place for bikes and walkers to cross the bridge from.

3.Make biking lanes more clearer because some drivers just can't see them or are oblivious to them and always drive in them anyway ( I know that as a biker)
And they shoudl also add more bike lanes in because it it hard for bikers to get where they want to go to if cars are just not giving way to bikers or not letting them go through.

4.Have more regular clean up Tagging days because tagging is like everywhere and some of it wrecks our city.

5.Declare a day when we celebrate and thank all the people in volunteer work e.g- S.P.C.A, salvation cross, etc and just thank them and a day when we appreciate what they do!

That's a few ways i think we can help improve hamilton!
THANKS!

Heya Peoples!
I think that Hamilton could be improved by focusing things on city heart and building attractions that can attract tourists (tourism). One of Hamilton's main visit sites is the river. I mean come on everything is facing away from it. It dosen't look like a great site to go on the Waipa Delta on the river because nothing is facing it. I think that we should do something about that. I think that's why the people think that hamilton looks dull. You know what I mean. Have you guys heard that New Plymouth has been named New Zealand's best city, and also been nominated for the world's best city! Maybe we should learn a trick or to from there1!!!

I think we need bus lanes... I know that is not possible because it would take up too much space and it would probably use some people's land.
Our roads are pretty shoddy in some places. Wouldn't it just have been more cost effective to have made good roads in the first place, avoiding having to repair roads regularly?

PS Speaking of land, in Malaysia (or somewhere near there) if you own land you don't just own what you can see, you own everything below all the way to the Earth's core.

And BTW The V8 Supercars next year is going to be 1 of the 4 endurance races(Bathurst, Sandown, Hamilton 400 and Phillip Island) and the Top Ten Shootout is also going to be introduced. There are also going to be 2 new tracks starting next year the Sydney 400 street race and the Townsville 400. And they've improved the view so everyone can enjoy the race!

90 years Kitty Milo, and instead of having clean up days where we are behind the taggers in the sense that we are cleaning up after them. We should stop it at the core.

I think we should have restaurants looking out over the river.

It would be cool if Hamilton had a bungy jump on one of the bridges.

yeh 90 sorry honest mistake. Really hamilron, that sounds cool! oh and roo many times have people tried to stop it and convince them to stop but some people are just bad by nature.
yeh thats a good as idea roo! we should have a bungee jump and make some more use of our bridges!

Hamiltron can you please explain bathurst and sandown better?

Thanks
Bye
:-)

MR WOODY!!! I contacted Nestle (who are the manufacturers of maggi noodles), asking what the vegetable oil they used was, and, if it was palm oil, did it come from a sustainable source! Pleeease go to my blog and see who they wrote back! It's so awesome!

I also think that we should build flyovers I know that it will create pollution but it would help us in the future to help our traffic problem but the main problem would obviously have to be land and money, but I'm sure the HCC being the clever boffins they are would find a way around these potholes
