What's your favourite native bird?

Our birds roCK! we have some of the rarest, weirdest, coolest birds on planet earth. Which is your favourite? I can't decide.
I love so many of them - of course the Kiwi is our icon and i LOVE that. .. .. I love piwakawaka, waxeyes, skylarks - cripes - i love 'em all!
go to this website to see which ones our politicians chose and why.

i think the kokako has the most haunting song, the kakapo is the most tragicly flawed for the our difficult world, the chatham island robin is the luckiest [to survive, so far], the takahe is the greatest come back, the tui, fantail, waxeye keep us company in our world and will survive. Ruru, thrills us at night with its distinctive call. Little blue penguins swim so effortlessly, gannets dive with such precision. Kereru lets us get so close [shame they end up in south auckland pub meat raffles by the dozen].
All our birds are so unique, wonderful, and endangered - a product of long isolated island ecology - oops - sorry if you don't believe in evolutionary theory ;>)

My favourite would have to be a Fantail, but I also like Saddlebacks.

Okay, I've changed my mind. My favourite NZ bird is the Karearea. No contest.

have seen kokako up close at pirongia, takahe pecked me on the head at tiritiri matangi, but best of all was my time on little barrier island - best place i've ever been

Mr W.
I love the NZ Falcon's because they hold such deadly grace. They are powerfully majestic creatures.
